2022 Season

News

The new season is upon us and 2022 programme is on the website. Last year has been a challenge for obvious reasons and we have had to improvise in order to keep things going.  Many thanks to the crews of Mary and Gannet III for persevering throughout the Summer and keeping the Club alive.

The annual prize giving was held at the Ship in in Axmouth this year  with great food and hospitality enjoyed by all who attended.

We must now look forward to 2022 if we are to continue as a viable enterprise.  Racing just two boats is not really sustainable, especially when considering the effort that goes into the sailing and organising the supporting roles.  Potentially, we have seven luggers that could regularly sail, but we have not managed to encourage/persuade any of the remaining five boats out.  It would help us plan for the future if we had some commitment from those skippers who have not raced this season, but intend sailing in 2022?

Similarly Membership has reduced as a result of Covid, we need your support in order to remain financially viable.

Lugger sailing is unique to Beer and very much a part of its heritage.  The configuration of our dipping lugs is raced nowhere else - worldwide!  If it is allowed to disappear, it is hard to see it ever being revived - this would be a sad loss, not only to sailing in general, community, but also to the local community.

So if you are concerned about keeping Beer Luggers going, please support the Club in renewing your Membership next year.
